New Firefox knows where you live !!!

The all new Firefox v. 3.5 is finally out for download … with lots of new features and enhancements … but the feature i am talking about is … embedded Google technology called .. Geo-location … so , now new firefox browser can know your geographical location from your IP !!! …

I don’t know about others out there , but for me , i sure don’t like this feature .. ( i am not paranoid about my identification but still i don’t like this feature ) … so , i do very little reading about it … and found that its easy to disable this feature ( lucky for me that i am not alone to think this feature is invasion on privacy just same like google do every time we use google search  or any of its services ) …

to disable this feature … just type …

about:config

in browser address bar … and it will show warning page indicating that , now firefox warranty will expire if we change this options !!! ( i never had any idea that softwares DO COME with warranty ) … just say OK … and in FILTER … just type GEO , it will list all strings starts with GEO … just locate ..

geo.enabled

.. and make it FALSE …

geo_location

and you are done with it …

enjoy …

Internet Web has been finally connected !!!

It sounds a bit weird right ?? … but if you are into heavy internet use then you must have always felt that there is something missing in internet … still internet is not convenient … still doesn’t have all-in-one web service … right ??

For example , You’re writing an email to invite a friend to meet at a local San Francisco restaurant that neither of you has been to. You’d like to include a map. Today, this involves the disjointed tasks of message composition on a web-mail service, mapping the address on a map site, searching for reviews on the restaurant on a search engine, and finally copying all links into the message being composed. This familiar sequence is an awful lot of clicking, typing, searching, copying, and pasting in order to do a very simple task. And you haven’t even really sent a map or useful reviews—only links to them. This kind of clunky, time-consuming interaction is common on the Web, because there’s no easy way other than copy-and-paste to get your data between one web-application and another. Its kind of advanced Mashup , a web 2 replacement of Portal .. right ???

Ubiquity for Firefox from Aza Raskin on Vimeo.

I found something amazing research is going on at Mozilla Labs , they call it , Ubiquity … an application / add-on to firefox that will connect and allow users to use many different web services and combine them together !!! its still in beta phase , but it really looks promising to me … smile_tongue ( i am not critic , so please don’t consider my words seriously ) … Mozilla Labs define ubiquity as ,

  • Make it extremely easy to Extend browser functionality, and share new functionality with other users.
  • Enable on-demand, user-generated mashups with existing open Web APIs. (In other words, allowing everyone–not just Web developers–to remix the Web so it fits their needs, no matter what page they are on, or what they are doing.)
  • Empower users to control the web browser using a natural-language-like command interface. (With search, users type what they want to find. With Ubiquity, they type what they want to do.)
  • Use Trust networks and social constructs to balance security with ease of extensibility.

but i should say , it requires a bit of advance computer knowledge , because to perform any task you are required to write down certain commands which you have to remember smile_zipit

Cooliris .... transforming browser into 3D cinema !!!

Cooliris blows up your Web-surfing experience into a larger-than-life graphical experience. It takes the images it finds on nearly any Web site, expands them to super-extra-large size, and then lets you surf through them in a classy scaling interface that we think we last saw in the Iron Man movie. Or maybe it was The Dark Knight.

Whatever the inspiration, there's no doubt that the cross-platform and cross-browser Cooliris puts the "graphic" back in "graphic user interface". Installing it places a button on the Toolbar. When you're on a Cooliris-enabled Web site, click the Cooliris button to activate the Cooliris interface. Your screen will go black, and all the images on the site will zoom past you as if on a roller-coaster. They stop soon after, and from there you can surf the site using the subtly-placed search bar at the top of your monitor. Click on an image to enlarge it. If it's a still image, it simply enlarges. If it's a video, it enlarges and starts playing.

Currently, the plug-in only supports a handful of the most popular graphics-intensive site, such as Facebook, MySpace, YouTube, Picasa, Flickr, and a few others. A WordPress plug-in allows those who use that blogging system to create Cooliris functionality, and there's a Webmaster's guide on the Cooliris site for users who host their own sites. We also noticed occasional stability problems on Internet Explorer, but they were intermittent at best. Installing the add-on is worth it just for the sweeping, futuristic way that images stream by when you browse, even though there might not be much practical application at this point.

Broswer Protection just for that FOX ..

hey all ...

i am sorry for not being on web for a while , bcoz of ...err .. studies ... anyways , the thing that i am talking about is a just a browser extension , "NO SCRIPT" ... well, it works just same its name ... it don't allow "any" script like , java script or flash or something like that which are now a days most common methods to infect system via browser (and very popular too !!! ) ...

It works very simple way ... it simply don't allow any script unless user allow it manually by selecting either temporarily allowing or by adding that site to safe list of that extension ... and like all other browser extension for firefox ... its cool and easy to handle and very very useful ... but it can be experince like , eating healthy food which is not so teasty ... ( err.... you have two choise , either get fat and die ... or be slim ... and then die !!! ,but you gonna die either ways ... ahh .. it was not point of disucussion here ... ) ... this extension has many other features to increase security from malicious scripts ..

so all i mean to say is , its one good extension to have for firefox ... it adds a little security from now a day common type of attack , attack via web script ...
